Welcome to the British Association's Traditional Autumn Trip15–17 September 2026
This year, our destination is Genoa, Italy.
Menton's history is partly Genoese. In the middle of the 13th century, Menton became an important part of the Republic of Genoa and flourished through trade.
It's about time we studied this once so powerful city more closely!
We will take the train via Ventimiglia, and you will need to buy your own ticket in advance. We will let you know which train we are taking around a week before the trip if you would like to travel together. We expect to take a local train from Ventimiglia at around 10:50.
We will stay in a 2–3-star hotel in central Genoa, with breakfast included. During our stay, we will walk or take a local bus, metro or taxi to our activities.
Day of Arrival
On the day of arrival, we will visit one of Genoa's famous palaces and then enjoy dinner together in the evening.
Our Full-Day Excursion
The following morning, we will walk, or take a taxi, to the port and jump on a boat for a full-day excursion to Camogli, the historic Abbey of San Fruttuoso and glamorous Portofino.
Of course, the evening will be spent in another nice restaurant!
Departure Day
On our final day, we will head back to the port for your own exploration.
Take a trip on BIGO, designed by the famous Genoese architect Renzo Piano, and admire the view from above. Alternatively, visit Genoa's famous aquarium, see the ship used in Pirates of the Caribbean at Europe's largest maritime museum, or challenge your taste buds at Eataly, a foodie's heaven where you can buy artisanal foods from all over Italy.
For those who are interested, we will finish with lunch at Eataly.
With a local train ticket, you can travel home whenever you wish.
