Our annual major event, to be held at the Palais de l’Europe, 12midday.
A change in procedure this year. This event will be a jolly, humorous, tongue in cheek celebration of all things British. (We need a boost!)
Enjoy our annual unbeatable, very splendid all-inclusive lunch, an amusing chat by a well-known best-selling British author, a live debut album performance, by a British songwriter living in France and live music and song, both traditional and modern.
Maybe some of you would like to dress up? If so, we shall offer a prize for the best costume, but it’s not compulsory.
Dear Members,
This year, I thought we’d try something new for our major event.
It all started with problems in hiring the Palais de l’Europe, where for years we’ve celebrated HM’s Official Birthday, the day of Trooping the Colour.
After numerous phone calls, we were unable to procure our usual slot. Maybe for some reason things were a little in disarray at the mairie…? All events at the Palais de l’Europe, are booked through the mairie and I finally received the OK for WEDNESDAY 8. JULY 2026
Whilst all this was going on, I came to the realisation, not every BA Menton member these days is a Royalist. We have international membership with people from all over the world, although our association, in essence, is very British.
You may wish to know, in 2027, next year, the British Association de Menton, will have been represented in Menton for 7o years.
I thought it may be time for a bit of fun and humour, which, after having been discredited and bullied for a while now, might be a bit of a tonic for Brits and Europeans alike. I got in touch with Stephen Clarke and Tim O’Connor.
Stephen Clarke, is a best-selling British author, living in Paris. He’s written many international best-sellers, including “A Year in the Merde,” “How the French Won Waterloo (Or think they Did,”)
Do take a look at Stephen’s books on stephenclarkewriter.com
I’m delighted that Stephen has accepted the invitation to our event on 8. July. He will give a talk on the historic rivalry and love affair between the British and French. All tongue in cheek, of course.
Tim O’Connor, is a British/Irish singer songwriter, based in the French Alps. Tim has performed and recorded all over Europe, US, Brazil and New Zealand, with great names such as Cat Stevens, Robert Plant, Arty McGlynn and many others.

I’m thrilled that Tim will perform for us at the Palais de l’Europe. Both Tim and Stephen have collaborated in producing a new album, which will have its maiden launch at the Palais de l’Europe on 8. July 2026
They will perform a some numbers together.
Our old pal Bruno Vitari will sing a few French numbers, to keep the Entente Cordiale alive and kicking
A “Best of British” fancy dress competition with prize for the most original outfit will close the event.
Wednesday next, I meet up with the caterer to discuss the menu. Those of you who celebrated HM’S Official Birthday with us last year, will remember the excellent menu served.
This event will be all inclusive. I would need to know as soon as possible, if you are interested in attending, as I need to know numbers to work out a price.
Tables can be booked for 8 people. I will shortly have menu details
Dear members, here’s hoping for a massive turn out.
Many thanks
Birgitt
