British Association's Traditional Autumn Trip - Genoa

Welcome to the British Association's Traditional Autumn Trip15–17 September 2026

This year, our destination is Genoa, Italy.

Menton's history is partly Genoese. In the middle of the 13th century, Menton became an important part of the Republic of Genoa and flourished through trade.

It's about time we studied this once so powerful city more closely!

We will take the train via Ventimiglia, and you will need to buy your own ticket in advance. We will let you know which train we are taking around a week before the trip if you would like to travel together. We expect to take a local train from Ventimiglia at around 10:50.

We will stay in a 2–3-star hotel in central Genoa, with breakfast included. During our stay, we will walk or take a local bus, metro or taxi to our activities.

Day of Arrival

On the day of arrival, we will visit one of Genoa's famous palaces and then enjoy dinner together in the evening.

Our Full-Day Excursion

The following morning, we will walk, or take a taxi, to the port and jump on a boat for a full-day excursion to Camogli, the historic Abbey of San Fruttuoso and glamorous Portofino.

Of course, the evening will be spent in another nice restaurant!

Departure Day

On our final day, we will head back to the port for your own exploration.

Take a trip on BIGO, designed by the famous Genoese architect Renzo Piano, and admire the view from above. Alternatively, visit Genoa's famous aquarium, see the ship used in Pirates of the Caribbean at Europe's largest maritime museum, or challenge your taste buds at Eataly, a foodie's heaven where you can buy artisanal foods from all over Italy.

For those who are interested, we will finish with lunch at Eataly.

With a local train ticket, you can travel home whenever you wish.

What's Included

The price includes two nights at the hotel, breakfast, the boat trip and entrance to the palace.

Price: €210 per person in a shared double room
€260 per person in a single room

You can pay me by cash or cheque at the 9 September coffee morning.

BA Luncheon - Brasserie Pampérigouste - La Turbie

THURSDAY 18 JUNE 2026
LUNCHEON 12:00

Brasserie Pampérigouste - 17 Pl. Neuve, 06320 La Turbie

The June BA lunch is at the Pamperigous in La Turbie on 18th June at 12.00.  Many of you came to the last lunch there in November and were very impressed.  Hopefully the weather will be better so more of you can take advantage of a visit to our famous trophy.  I understand the views are spectacular although it is a climb.  I am ashamed to say I have still not visited.  It is also market day, which although not huge, is busy so maybe a coffee in the sun,  watching the world go by.

La Turbie is very easy to get to by car and despite the market there should be plenty of parking.

The 11a to La Turbie Marie bus leaves from opposite the top of Monaco train station, at 10.12 and 11.32.  This bus also leaves the Office de Tourism in Monaco (just opposite where the 600 will drop you off) at 10.14 and 11.34.

The menu is as follows, euro 43 for members, 46 for non members.

Hope to see you there.  Payment can be made by cheque sent to:
BADDELEY, Pont du Faisse, 06440 Peille or by cheque or cash given to one of our committee members at coffee mornings etc or by bank tx.  Details on the website.

May Soiree Hippy in Gorbio 8pm

A Hippy Evening at Salle Henri Monin. Apparently, it’s less than  4 km from Menton, in direction Gorbio.

Let me know, if you would like to attend and we’ll arrange a table. At the moment, we have 5 members interested.

If car share doesn’t work. An Uber or Bolt will drop you off cheaply and pick you up again.

I would need to let the organisers know one week before the event, if you would like to make up a table. Dressing up in hippy gear might  be fun, but it is not compulsary.
